New Radar Coming Soon
Posted on July 16th, 2010 @ 10:41PM
SuperSnowServices.com is getting a new radar soon! Currently, we are developing a new radar feature that makes use of Google Maps. This will allow anyone using the radar to view radar anywhere in the United States. It will also allow the animation and playback of the radar.
This new feature will also show alerts and warning directly on the radar, eliminating the current Alerts Map.
This alert feature embedded in the radar map will also allow us to display NOAA's storm based warning system which shows warning based on GPS coordinates instead of county lines.
It is unclear as of yet if Alerts will also be enhanced with the animation feature but it is something we'd like to do.
There may be a possiblity of selecting between Bing Maps and Google Maps, instead of just using Google Maps for personal preference, but this is yet to be decided.
There is no release date to announce yet as when this new radar will go live.
Stay tuned here for more news on this exciting new feature!

Website Problems and Bugs
Posted on April 6th, 2010 @ 8:04PM
We have noticed some issues with our website. Mainly, with the weather pages. More specifically, with the alert system. The alert times are way off. Our system converts a NOAA timestamp into a "pretty" time, something that is a little more legible. Unfortunately, there is a bug that is displaying the improper times.
Also, at this time, there are so many alerts to display that it has overwhelmed the system and exceeds the maximum execution time. What does that mean? It basically means our system is not very efficient at gathering, calculating and displaying the information when there are many alerts to display.
This is something that will be fixed, hopefully, shortly. However, not within the next 48 hours as we have lost our development server and recovery is impossible. So we must restore old files.
In the meantime, we have disabled our weather feature to prevent frustration.
Until then, you can go here to see current alerts.

Christmas Snow
Posted on December 18th, 2009 @ 11:52AM
It seems that a possible Winter Storm will be heading our way for Christmas.
Current models show the storm to be here in full swing by Christmas Eve. The forecast models are still a bit early but place the low almost directly on top of us.
Right now, it looks that flurries will develop Tuesday turning to a moderate steady snowfall by Thursday.
Currently, the model shows up to a possibility of 8 inches of snow.
Of course, this all depends on the placement of the low. If it tracks farther south, we will probably see less snow.
Today through the weekend, we are looking at possibly 1 to 3 inches of snow by the end of Sunday.

First Winter Storm 2009
Posted on December 7th, 2009 @ 10:23PM
Not a bad way to start off our website. A Winter Storm is going to be moving into the area Tuesday, December 8th through Wednesday, December 9th. This storm is expected to be a major storm producing 6-12 inches of snow and locally higher amounts possible for the stateline.
This storm will make travel conditions very dangerous if not impossible. It will also likely produce many school and business closings, as well.
Unfortunately, due to the timing of this event, keeping roads and parking lots clear will be difficult for the snow and ice management industry. Snow removal and ice management services will be conducted throughout Tuesday evening and Wednesday even during Rush Hour commutes making travel conditions very dangerous. We urge all travelers to be very cautious, patient and courteous as crews work extensively to clear roadways and parking lots; making them safe for travel.
Check out SnowCast v0.5 Beta for accurate weather information and alerts.
Visit WIFR.com's School and Business Closings page for the most complete up to date information on closings around the area.
